How I play Wendy in DST

To those that interact with me often, it is no secret that Don’t Starve Together is one of my favorite games of all time. I enjoy how the world seems relentlessly unforgiving at first, but also can offer relief to those that are a bit more observant. Today I am going to talk about how I play Wendy, The Bereaved.

For anyone that doesn’t know about Wendy, she is a depressive character with a morbid personality and always finds a way to relate things with death. She carries with her the flower of her dead twin sister, Abigail. Wendy is relatively frail in comparison to other characters, but can summon Abigail’s ghost provided that her flower is in full bloom on the ground when any living thing - plant lives excluded - is killed within the vicinity.

Once the deed has been done, Abigail’s ghost will follow and protect Wendy from any living creature that may pose a threat or wanders too close. Though more suited for combat, Abigail can still take damage. When outside of combat Abby regenerates moderately fast, but if she loses her health completely, she will revert to a flower bulb and the blooming process will reset.

Wendy players will quickly learn to use Abigail’s “services” in very creative ways when surviving in the harsh wilderness. One interaction that I enjoy is using Abigail to fight a swarm of angry killer bees that wish to live up to their name. Abby will take no damage from bee stings and also saves time by attacking them with an AoE force; effectively saving lots of time that would otherwise be spent kiting.

Utilizing Abigail as a bodyguard, distraction, or even a tiny light source can save your life - but her protective and stubborn nature can cause unwanted attention and battles for those unaware of their surroundings. While not always true, my general rule to follow is this: “If something looks questionable, approach it with caution as it is probably out to kill you!” Happy Halloween!
